SWIMMING CARNIVAL

MAY BE ABANDONED. BOARD UNABLE TO SUPPLY LIGHTING. Something in the nature of a “bombshell” was sprung on the committee meeting of the Foxton Swimming Club last evening, when Mr. Christie reported that unless it rained between now and Saturday the Horowhenua Power Board would be unable to supply the Club with power to light up the baths for the carnival on Saturday evening.

Mr. Christie had been deputed by the Club to meet the Power Board representatives and point out to them what was wanted in the way of lighting at the baths. The representatives intimated -that the Board cost to run the power lines in to the baths would be £4 10s, but pointed out that they were unable to supply the “juice” unless rain fell within the next few days. The committee decided to proceed with the installation of the lights,, and to make, further endeavours to have the power turned on for Saturday night, it being considered that the power consumed for the occasion would be a mere “bagatelle.”
