ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
MAN FOUND DEAD.
New Plymouth, February 9,
A man about 60 years of age was found dead on the Junction Road just outside the borough boundary at 8 o’clock this morning. Thei;e were no marks on the body to suggest a cause of death. Among the effects there are some papers with the name G. Hughes and showing that he belonged to the Wellington Carpenters’ and General Labourers’ Unions and the New Zealand Labour Party. A swag was fo,und on the roadside 100 yards from the body. v
ELDERLY MAN KILLED. Auckland, February 9. During the lunch hour Dr. Endletsberger was driving his car along Karangahape Road, when a collision took place between his vehicle and Robert Prendergast, aged 74 years, who lives at Mount Eden. Prendergast, who was seriously injured, was removed to the hospital, where it was found he was suffering from a broken jaw and other injuries. He died to-night. INFANT’S TRAGIC DEATH. Hamilton, February 9. The infant twin daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Scott, of Waitoa, met her death last evening in an unusual manner. The twins, aged 8$ months, were playing together in their cot, an iron-framed one, about 6.30. The mother left them for a short time, having household duties to attend to in an adjoining room When she returned she found that one child had wriggled its body between the frame, and the mattress, and was hangiiig by her neck. Life was extinct. A doctor who was called pronounced death to be due to strangulation. ______
