DEMPSEY RETIRES. Miami (Florida), February 1. Tex Rickard announced on Wednesday that Jack Dempsey had permanently retired and that Gene Tunney would defend his title in June against the winner of the Sharkey-Heeney and Risko-Delau-ey eliminations. A paragraph in a -Los Angeles paper states: “That is fine. Everything is O.K. with me. If my injured eye and muscle improves I may fight again or may not,” said Dempsey in referring to/the Miami report. —'Sydney “Sun” Cable. TROWERN BEATS PEARCE. Sydney, February 2. At the Stadium, Reg. Trowern (lOst. '2Mb.) outpointed Pearce (10st. 9Mb ). The New Zealander scored well with long body punches from the start, and maintained his lead throughout, i He floored his opponent twice in the twelfth round with long rights to the jaw. The bell prevented him from scoring a knock-out. Continuing his aggressive fighting, Trowern finished with a wide margin of points in his favour.
