CONTINUOUS TELEPHONE SERVICE.
MATTER TO BE EXPEDITED. At Thursday evening’s Chamber of Commerce meeting Mr. R. N. Speirs asked what steps were being taken by the Chamber to have the continuous telephone service for Foxton an accomplished fact. His reason for doing so, he said, was that about thirty subscribers had been added to the Foxton exchange in the Moutoa district on the distinct understanding that an all night service was to be introduced. That was some time ago and they were now beginning to feel that they had been misinformed and had signified their intention of transferring to the Shannon exchange once the Shannon Bridge Avas completed. It Avas up to the Chamber to See that faith was kept with these people and a continuous telephone service inaugurated. Mr. Christie reported that together with the secretary he had canvassed the Ideal business people and had'obtained the requisite number of signatures. There onlv remained the private subscribers to canvass and' Mr. Smith had this matter in hand. Unfortunately he Avas absent from the meeting. ; It was resolved to expedite the AA’prk immediately and that the President and Messrs Smith, Barron, Corn and Speirs confer Avith the Postmaster on the matter.
