THE SWIMMING BATHS.

REVIEW OF EXPENDITURE. At last night's Borough Council meeting the Town Clerk submitted the following statement in connection with the erection of the swimming baths Expenditure:—'Advertising £4 15s 6d, Contract for construction £865, clerk of works £SO, cement wash £3 13s, tickets, etc. £7 3s, notice boards £3 4s 6d, extras £ll 10s 2d, furnishings £2 Is 3d, bell 13/2, wages (caretaker) £7 10s sd, clock £1 15s, water and sewerage £SO 18s 2d, signwriting £1 15s, at total of £IOO9 19s 2d. 1 Tht actual capital cost of the baths was £945 5s 9d. The'sum of £935 4s 9d was received from the Carnival Committee, which left a deficit of £lO Is. In addition to this the sum of £SO paid to the Clerk of Works has to be added, which made a total deficit of £6O Is. The earnings up to 5/1/28 totalled £49 13s lOd. The 'Clerk stated- that it .was fairly evident that by the en(l of the swimming season the Council would be out of pocket only to the extent of the caretaker's salary. The Mayor said that the conditions were very satisfactory and he felt sure that those concerned in the raising of the money would be quite satisfied with what bad been done. Mr. Trueman as treasurer had. carried out his duties ably and well. ,
