THE SILVER BAND.
'Some time ago the public of Foxton and district raised upwards of £IOOO to provide instruments and uniforms for the local band. The instruments and uniforms were procured and for a time the band gave promise of becoming a successful institution. Something happened to disturb the harmony of members and other members left the town in search of employment. There are still a few players left, and the band’s assets are in charge of a capable committee. What is wanted is an enthusiastic and capable conductor to infuse life into the band and attract and coach the musically-inclined lads in the community to join up. It is regrettable that such first class equipment should lie idle. Perhaps the Mayor, at a later date, will convene a public- meeting to ascertain whether the band can be revived and become a pleasurable asset to the town.
