ROAD AND FOOTPATH IMPROVEMENTS.

PROVISION TO BE MADE IN ESTIMATES. At last night’s Borough Council meeting Cr. Cowley suggested that the tar sealing of Avenue Road to the cemetery be considered in the estimates for the ensuing year. The Mayor said the road was the main one not yet tar sealed, and should receive first consideration. It would receive full consideration when the estimates were being drafted.

Cr. Lucinsky said that everyone was complaining about the rates. He was of opinion that the Council should stand still for a while with regard to expenditure, and not take on too many new works. Tht Mayor: We will have to go very sparingly. estimates will have to be given careful consideration and reduced to a minimum to keep the rates down. 1 It was decided to request the Road Foreman to submit an estimate for preparing and tar sealing this road.

Cr. Ross said he had been approached to request the Council to give some attention to the footpath on the west side of the south end of Main Street. If the path was prepared the R.ailway Department would provide cinders to lay down. It was also decided to obtain an estimate for doing this work from the road foreman.
