INTOXICATED MOTORIST FINED

CAUSES COLLISION NEAR WAIKANAE. \ Otaki, Yesterday. On Sunday afternoon two ears came into collision on the main road halfway between Waikanae and Paraparaumu, as a result of which the driver of one of them, a man named George Saunders, of Brooklyn, Wellington, was arrested and charged with being intoxicated while driving a motor-car. The other car was driven by Mr. Tlios. Escott, also of Wellington, who was bringing his family and some friends to Waikanae. As a result of the collision- some occupants of this car sustained nasty facial and head abrasions, but no one was seriously hurt. Saunders was charged at the Otaki Police Court on Monday with intoxication while drivng a car," and the Justces of the Peace who heard the case inflicted a fine of £ls, and ordered him to pay the Court costs £2. He was further charged with causing damage to the police cell on Sunday evening by tearing down a steel grill and iron bars over the door, the police describing it as an attempt, to escape. On this charge' he was fined 1 XI.
