PLUNKET SOCIETY
The monthly meeting of the above Committee was held in the Plunket office yesterday afternoon. Those present were: Mesdames F. Robinson (president), D. Christie, Wl H. Walton, W. Trueman, J. Chrystall, R, Boore, A. Stevenson, A. Ross, D. R. Barron and R. McMurray (hon. secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames D. Ogilvy and F. Procter.
The Advisory Board, Messrs M. E. Perreau (Mayor), W. Trueman and D. Christie; were in attendance for the purpose of discussing the plans for the proposed Plunket offices m the building adjoining the Council Chambers. Mr Perreau stated that the Borough Council and the Advisory Board had gone into the matter of providing rooms in the building. Plans of the suggested alterations had been prepared. The Borough Council were willing to help the Society, but at present had no funds available to carry ont the proposed alterations. If the Society approved the plans and could arrange finance, and made an application to the Borough Council, he felt sure they would receive the Council’s support. Mr Trueman explained the plans, and suggested, that the ladies discuss them and suggest any alterations.
After considerable discussion several minor alterations were recommended, and it was unanimously decided that the proposal be agreed to. Correspondence was received from the McCarthy Trust Fund, enclosing application form. The Nurse’s monthly report showed visits to Foxton 4, to homes 11, adults to offilce 78, babies 68, other children 31; total, 177. New cases, 4.
Mrs Christie handed in the amount of £8 5s 6d from Mrs F. Procter’s 'group. A vote of thanks was accorded this .group. Mrs E. Healey, who is at present visiting Foxton, sent greetings to the members of the Society. Mrs R. McMurray was appointed flower steward for the month, and Mrs F. Robinson for the following month, and Mesdames McMurray, Robinson, Barron and Trueman visitors. Office box contributions 18s Id: Mr I. Corn’s weighing machine 5s llid.
Yesterday afternoon, Miss Gillies, head nurse and organiser of the Victorian Bush Nursing Association, accompanied by Miss King, of Wellington, paid a visit to the office of the local branch. The visitors were met by the president (Mrs F. Robinson) and members of the Committee. Miss Gillies expressed appreciation of the way in tvhich the smaller towns and country districts throughout New Zealand were supplied with the services of Plunket Nurses, the spirit of mutual co-operation which exists between the branches, and also the nurses. The history of the local sub-branch and the progress made
was briefly sketched for Miss Gillies’ information. Both Miss Gillies and Miss King were very interested in the proposed new rooms. They wshed the local Branch success.
