FOXTON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

SUMMER SHOW. A GOOD DISPLAY. The Pox-ton Horticultural Society's Summer Show was opened this afternoon by the Mayor (Mr M. E. Perreau). Despite the adverse weather conditions of late, which has greatly militated against successful horticulture, the display of blooms is particularly good and well worth inspecting. The decorative class' is well patronised, and surpasses anything previously attempted locally. Exhibitors from Alanakau and Otaki are well represented. The cookery section has also attracted a large number of entries. Entries totalled 400, which considering the weather, is particularly good. Mr. Mason stated that the show was very good. At Halcombe yesterday there was only one entry in the sweet pea section. Mr. Whitehead informed our representative that the exhibition of cookery was quite good. The plum pudding section was weak. The madiera cake section was particularly good. “No one need be ashamed of her exhibit” stated Mr. Whitehead. “They are all well up to the standard.”

This evening a suitable musical programme has been arranged to enliven the session. The-complete prize list is as follows: — ROSES. •’ Judge: Mr Mason Jnr. Steward: Mrs Trueman.
