BOROUGH COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Borough Council was held last night. Reports were read . and dealt with as follows: WATERWORKS FOREMAN’S REPORT. The waterworks foreman reported that during the month he < had connected one house with the highpressure water and laid one sewer connection. lie had also carried out a good deal of work on the swimming baths. Pumping Station Report.—During the month 1,450,000 gallons of water was pumped, the maximum current used being 31 amps. —Adopted. ROAD FOREMAN’S REPORT. The road foreman reported that during the month the road staff had been engaged in mixing asphalt in the yard; clearing and reforming the roadway into Easton Park and asphalting same; asphalting the inside of the swimming bath area; carting and levelling san'd from the bath .site; removing iron fence between gasworks and Easton Park and re-erecting portion of same to join wall of swimming baths and general maintenance. Purcell St. to Levin Ed. corner and Sandon Rd. have been trimmed up with the road .grader. The staff was engaged in patching up breaks in the bitumen roads, and given suitable weather, attention will be given to the footpaths during the present month.Adopted. Cr. Walker suggested that the roadway from the entrance to Easton Park right up to the baths should be completed and it was decided to put this work in hand when weather permits. CORRESPONDENCE was read and dealt with as follows: From the Manawatu County Council, stating that at the last meeting of the Council, it was decided to make a donation of £5 towards the 'Foxton Cemetery funds. —Received. < From the Foxton Plunket Society thanking the Foxton Borough Council for a donation of £2 2/-. —Received. UNPAID RATES. It was decided that ten per cent, be added to all rates outstanding on 10th December, 1927. In putting the above resolution, the Mayor said that he was sorry the Council found it necessary to impose the above penalty but, like everyone else, they found themselves a little short as the year drew to a close. GENERAL. A draft copy of the proposed Motor Regulations was submitted and referred to the Towp Clerk for perusal. The Municipal Corporation notified that the annual conference of local bodies would take, place at Nelson on the 2nd Wednesday in March, 1928, remits for some to be in hand by December Ist, 1927. — Received.

The Clerk reported that since last meeting the auditor had paid him a visit and had now almost completed his work of inspection.
