STREET LIGHTING.
REQUEST FOR MORE LAMPS.
At last nightfs Borough Council meeting a letter was received from Mr. D. R. Barron asking the Council to have a street light erected in the vicinity of Watson Street. The Mayor said that applications had also beenunade for street lights in front of the Convent and at the corner of Francis Street. He considered that these requests should be held over until the estimates were being prepared next year, when provision could be made for them. The Council had been faced with heavy expenditure this year. The Clerk said that Foxton’s 51 street lamps cost approximately £2OO a year. No more lamps could be added to the present circuit, outside of Main Street, and the location of the suggested lamps would mean extra wiring.
It was decided to hold the matter over until next year and to make provision fox- the extra lights in next year’s estimates.
