THEFT FROM WIDOW.

SOUTHLAND ATHELETE CHARGED. Invercargill, Last Night. At the Police Court Ernest Ma-ben-Gilmour, who is well-known in business and athletic circles, was committed for trial on charges of theft of sums totalling £ISOO from Emily Clark, a widow, who died early this year. The defence was that Gilmour held a power of attorney under which he drew money which he had a perfect right to do. On a further charge of the theft of £250 he was also committed for trial.
