“UPSTREAM.” The leading film at the Town Halt to-morrow (Friday) evening is “Upstream.” John Ford, maker of “The Iron Horse” and “3 Bad Men” scored again with his masterly direction. This is a photodrama that shows the director of epic films in a happier and lighter mood. For “Upstream” is a romance of the roaring river of life, called Broadway, with many fine touches of humour to lighten the poignancy of a finely told tale of rare charm. A cast of unusual merit fills every part of importance and includes among its members Raymond Hitchcock, star of the stage, who plays an eminently fitting part as an old Shakespearean actor and star of a theatrical boardiny house. Grant Withers and Lydia Yeamans Titus, as well as Ted McNamara, and Sammy Cohen, the fun makers, are also admirably east. “Upstream” is a real story, gripping with suspense and pulsing with life. Also “Bathing Suitor” (comedy), and News. - Usual prices.
Tim McCoy, who was this year introduced to . picturegoers in a story written by Peter B. Kyne and directed by W. S. Van Dyke, “War Paint,” will be seen at the Town Hall on Saturday in another Kyne vehicle directed by Van Dyke. The new picture, “California,” is based on the conquest of the territory of California in 1846. McCoy has the role of a young marine offi'cer, while the leading feminine role, that of a California senorita, is taken by beautiful Dorothy Sebastian. Usual prices.
