HEMP MARKET.

OCTOBER GRADING RETURNS. The grading returns for hemp, tow, stripper tow, and stripper slips for the month of October have been issued by the Department of Agriculture as follows: Ports. G.F. H.F. L.F. C. Auckland 16 442 727 92 Wellington 13 557 1407 265 Foxton Bluff Lyttelton 12 23 19 7 Thirteen bales at Aiicklaricl, 122 at Wellington, 44 at Foxton, 5 at Bluff and 21 at Lyttelton were rejected. The number of bales in each grade were as follows, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis:— Fine nil (20), good fair 41 (365), high fair 1426 (2175), low fair 3989 (1645), common 658 (826), rejected 205 (161), a total of 6319 bales as against 5210 graded the same period last year, an increase of 1109 bales.

The number of bales graded at each port were: —Auckland 1290, Wellington 2364, Foxton 1720, Bluff 863, Lyttelton 82. The following shows the detailed particulars of the tow: — Ports Ist. ,2nd. 3rd. Auckland 6 274 64

Wellington • 20 306 92 Foxton ' 38 318 14 Bluff Lyttelton Four bales at Auckland, 44 at Wellington, and 13 at Foxton were condemned.

The following shows the number of bales in each grade, the number corresponding period /of last year being given in parenthesis: —lst grade 64 (173), 2nd grade 1086 (860), 3rd grade 316 (251), condemned 61 (66), a total of 1527 bales as against 1350 bales graded the same period last year, an increase of 177 bales.

The number of bales graded at each port were: —Auckland 348, Wellington 462, Foxton 383, Bluff 293, Lyttelton 41. Stripper-tow:—Eighteen bales at Wellington were graded Ist grade, 144 bales at Wellington were graded second grade. A total number of 162 balds as against nil for the same period last year, showing an increase of 162 bales.

Stripper-slips:—Four bales at Auckland, 70 at Foxton were graded 2nd. grade; five at Bluff were condemned and 84 at the Bluff were passed for export, making a total of 163 bales, as against 135 for the same period last year, showing an increase of 28 bales.
