SENSATIONAL DETAILS,
POSTMASTER ARRESTED,
Rotorua, September 23
Following a fire at the Ngongotaha post office last week, when it was alleged that the postmaster was assaulted and the money, destroyed, it was reported to the police 4 that The (postmaster, named Heerdegen, had disappeared. Heerdegen’s car was found bogged on the Taupo" road, and the owner was later found in a state of col lapse, and taken to the King George V Hospital. Tjhe police are now making further investigations. Later. The Postmaster of Ngongotalfa
was arrested .by Detective Sweeney, of Hamilton, and charged in the Magistrate’s Court this afternoon with the theft of £3O as an officer of the Post and Telegraph Department. On the application of the police, accused was remanded until October 7. At accused’s request his name was suppressed.
