PERSONAL.
Mr B. N. T. Blake, M.A., at present headmaster of the Thorndon Normal School, and Mr C. A. Cunming, M.A., headmaster of the Miramar South School, have been mppointed as inspectors for the Education Department. ' Mrs. Stanley, of the local District High School teaching staff, underwent an operation at a private hospital in Wellington yesterday and is reported to be progressing satisfactorily. The' Education Board has granted Mrs. Stanley a month’s leave of absence and has appointed Miss Purnell relieving teacher to fill the temporary vacancy.
The death took place at Ponsonby, Auckland, on the 12th instant, of Mr John Wright Gower, at the advanced age of 94 years. The deceased gentleman was a well-known pioneer settler in this district, and took an active part in public affairs, and was well-known to old settlers throughout this district, and was esteemed for'his upright and Christian character. Prior to taking up his residenhe with his daughter, in Auckland, he lived at Napier. Mr B. G. Gower, of Foxton, is a son of deceased.
