AUTOMATIC FIRE ALARM. • A quotation was received from Messrs Brown Bros., electricians, for erecting an up-to-date automatic fire alarm. Downes wrote tendering his resignation as Superintendent of the Brigade, owing to his leaving the dstrict. The Chairman expressed regret that Mr. Downes was leaving Foxton. Foxton’s loss, he said, would be some other town’s gain. Mr. Downes had been a good and faithful superintendent. Messrs Perreau and J. K. Hornblow also made eulogistic reference to Mr. Downes’ services on the Brigade. Mr. Downes in thanking the speakers for their references, said that he regretted severing his connection with • the Brigade . The Brigade was a happy family and were doing good work. He was very sorry to leave Foxton, hut was doing so to better himself. It was decided to place on record Mr. Downes’ services ot the Board. The matter of appointing a Superintendent was held over in the meantime. GENERAL. Accounts amounting to £124 19s 9d were passed for payment. A letter was received from'G. L. Griesen Ltd., giving particulars of the Barton Fire pump. —Received. SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT. The Superintendent’s report was read as follows: I have the honour to present the report of the Brigade for the quarter ending September, 1927. We have not had any calls this quarter. . The Brigade has 16 men of all ranks, who have attended the weekly practices fairly regularly, there being an average attendance of 12 men per practice night. The station, engine and equipment are all in good order and the electric light which is now installed is a great asset. I would suggest the Board purchase a powerful electric hand lamp for night work. This could be procured for about £2 10s, also one or two smoke masks, price of which would be about 11/- each. The members of the Brigade would be glad if the Board would bear half the cost of re-covering the billiard table. —Adopted. It was decided’ to procure two smoke masks for the Brigade and also a night lamp. A grant of £5 was made towards maintenance of billiard table.
