SEWER BLOCKAGES.

BECOMING SERIOUS,

Hardly a. Council meeting passes without the waterworks foreman having to report that he has had to clean out some sewer or other which had become blocked during the month and at last night’s meeting there were on exhibition, a piece of 4 by 2 wood, responsible for a blockage in a Duncan Street sewer and a collection of children’s toys, containing a rattle and a ball, taken from the Union Street sewer. It would appear as though children are chiefly responsible for such articles finding their way into the sewer. The Council took a serious view of the matter, however, and decided to take steps to make an example pf anyone caught placing insoluble matter down the drain.
