BOWLERS EVENING.
The final “five hundred” evening of the series, held under the auspices of lthe |Fo(xton Bowling Club, took place at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J. Thomson, Thynne Street, on Thursday evening. There has a record attendance land a most enjoyable time was spent. The ladies prizes were won by Mesdames Cowley and J. M. Thomson, and the gents by Messrs C. Pritchard and Webb. The aggregate prizes for the series were won by Mrs. J. M. Thomson and Mr. W. Trueman. The president, Mr. R. Bryant, in presenting the trophies to the winners, referred to the object of the gatherings, which had a 'two-fold purpose, to bring bowlers and their wives into social intercourse and to assist the club financially. He was pleased to report that the series had been responsible for raising the nett sum of £ls 2/- (applause). The club was indebted to all who had assisted. He added that a certain amount of work had to be done on the green and asked members to render what assistance they could in this connection. The president said he had another very pleasing duty to perform which was to ask Mrs. Thomson to accept a handsome cushion as a mark of appreciation for placing her home at the disposal of the club for the series of social evenings and for other acts of generosity. • j Mrs. Thomson, in accepting the gift and in acknowledging the president’s remarks, said that what she had done had been a pleasure. The hostess was then given musical honours a'nd three hearty cheers. A tasty supper concluded a very enjoyable evening.
