LON CHANEY IN “TELL IT TO THE MARINES.”
Amid the surge of Oriental strife —the thunder of naval guns —the hatred of the yellow men for foreigners—the chaos of modern China —these are the settings for a powerful drama in “Tell it to the Marines,” which comes to the Town Hall on Friday. This is a spectacular picture and tells the story of the Marine Corps —a story with its nicely balanced proportions of the human loves, tragedies, and ideals of those who are always the “first to. fight.” It provides glorious entertainment! One roars with laughter at William Haines as a new recruit, in his troubles. One thrills at the mighty spectacle of a whole fleet ordered away on foreign service. Lon Chaney, as a grizzled veteran, has a role totally unlike any of his previous efforts. It may well go down as one of the real Chaney classics. Without a trace of “make-up,” his own forceful acting and strength of characterization makes his performance one of real merit. Popular prices 1/- and 1/(5. Children 3d and 6d. Saturday’s feature “30 Below Zero” stars two very popular ar-. tists in Buck Jones and Eva Novak. The film was tahen in the Canadian snow country. Usual prices.
