THE NEW PARTY
“.JUST THE LIBERAL CROWD.”
“A political party is not a secret society and the public has every right to know what is going on,” said Mr. W. A. Veitch, M.P., when questioned by a “Chronicle” man regarding the new movement in Dominion politics. “I can say nothing more definite than was contained in ray statement on Friday,” he continued, “because the movement is only in its infancy. I am expecting there will be new developments when I return to Wellington. Things are just beginning to move, they won’t stay as they are, and it is perfectly clear that there will be a combination of the various progressive forces.” Inquiries among members of the Reform Party who have shown independent tendencies do not indicate that the new political organisation will find recruits from that quarter. Mr. A. Harris (Waitemata) laughingly told a group of friends not to ask personal questions, anfl lie did not appear to be possessed of firsthand knowledge of the party. Mr. V. H. Potter (Roskill). said he knew who was behind the party in Auckland, but they would not disclose the names until they got a few more important ones —if they could. He was perfectly satisfied to be in the Reform Party, which, he said he had never left, and to stand by Mr. (Coates as Prime Minister.
Mr. W. S. Glenn (Rangitikei), who recently caused a little stir by resigning the position of Junior Whip of the Reform Party, also denied any connection with the new band. Mr. Glenn has made a show of his independence in the House, and he said last night, in an interview : “I am still on my own. This new thing is just the Liberal crowd.”
