HELPING BRITAIN
NEW ZEALAND LOAN. MATERIAL FOR PUBLIC WORKS. / _____ Wellington, August 20. The latest New Zealand loan of £6,000,000 is expected to exercise a beneficial influence on the railway trades at Home, states the British Trade Commissioner (Mr. h. B. Beale). This is much appreciated by the manufacturing districts, ’ since the increased activity in the big steelmaking departments which followed the resumption of work in the coal areas has not been maintained, and at rolling mills and forges there has been only a moderate amount of work done. A considerable portion of the May loan will be devoted to material for building construction, railways, and hydro-electric works, and improves the outlook considerably.
