BURNED TO DEATH

OLD MAN’S FATE,

Auckland, July 24

Sydney Edwin Lodge, a single man aged about 72, who was employed as a nightwatehman, was burned to death in a hut in the yard of A. and T. Burt’s ’ foundry at Freeman’s Bay early this morning. A neighbour who saw flames coming from the hut about a quarter to four rushed over, but the building was burned so fiercely that he could do nothing. When the brigade extinguished the five Lodge’s charred body was found in the ruins.
