ABOUT ROUTE TO NEW BRIDGE. i At yesterday’s meeting of, the Manawatu County Council a?'l' 1 f + qr was received from the Public ! *Wbfks Department notifying that the Main Highways Board had adopted’No. 3 route for the new road to be formed between the new bridge and Shannon in connection witlr- the Foxton-Shannon highway. ''The route is estimated to cost £5400 and in view of the present position of finance the Highway Board did not consider any expenditure should be authorised along Johnston ,plrifct, Shannon, with a view to raising the road above the flood level. The chairman said that the,,ques- ; tion of route was rather a . sqrq point. Three routes had been sfir-i veyed and this was the third alterh-j tion which had been made follo ; w-| ing on considerable discussion of the issue. . ; The matter was informally discussed in committee, after which the County Clerk pointed out that, the Council had never committed itself to the issue of any warrant for the approach road. A resolution was carried protesting against the issue of the warrant for the proposed route on the present estimate.
