STUDENTS’ VISIT TO AUCKLAND.
'ALLEGED UNSEEMLY . CONDUCT. Christchurch, July 18. Stories of scandal in the Canterbury College have by turns amused and angered the students. - The Professorial Board heard and took serious notice of a report that there was unseemly conduct among the members'of the Canterbury College party going to Auckland for the Easter tournament. The worst allegations seems to have been that on the Main Trunk train young women students sat on the knees of male students. Three members of the Professorial Board sat as a tribunal to-day to investigate the rumours. They called the members of the party, male and female, singly into the room and closely cross-examined them. The students declare stoutly that there was no unseemly conduct. But it was admitted that in a crowded carriage the girls may have sat for a time on young men's knees. The professors did not declare a finding. They will report to the Professorial Board.
