BIG ROADING SCHEME

APPROVED BY CONFERENCE OF DELEGATES. / A conference held at Marton this week of delegates from the Rangitikei, Wanganui and Waitotara Counties, AVanganui City, and the Automobile Association,, discussed Mr S. A. R. Mair’s scheme for reconstructing the main highway from Bulls to Patea, at a cost of a. quarter of a million. It was unanimously recognised that something had to be to overcome the present roading problem, and the principle of the scheme was generally approved. Certain amendments were made to the original proposals in regard to the allocation of money among the bodies concerned, and these will be submitted by the delegates to these bodies for confirmation. The conference will meet again in a fortnight’s time to finally endorse the proposals whereupon legislation will be asked for to put the proposals into effect.

AATIAT ABOUT MANAAVATU? AAV believe it would be greatly to the advantage of the Manawatu County Council to be included in the scheme, if not too late. A scheme such as outlined means that the work would be undertaken on a comprehensive basis, instead of the piece-meal process which now obtains in connection with arterial roads.
