We regret to record the death of Mrs Davinia Margerite Mantell, wife of Mr Frederic James Mantell, of Liddell Street, Foxton, which took place in the Palmerston Hospital yesterday afternoon, in her 63rd year. The late Mrs Mantell had been in indifferent health for some time past, and recently entered the Palmerston Hospital for treatment.
The late Mrs Mantell was born at Inverary, Scotland, where her father was employed by the Duke of Argyle. Upon her father’s death the Duke undertook the education of Mrs Mantell. In 1880 she accompanied her mother to New Zealand, arriving by the ship Dunedin In 1887 she was married in Dunedin, and after paying a short visit to Scotland, returned to New Zealand and lived in Wellington and Palmerston N.,' finally settling in Foxton about 10 years ago. She leaves a husband and two sons (Messrs Archibald and Malcolm, of Palmerston N.) to mourn the loss of a loyal and devoted wife and mother. The late Mrs Mantell was beloved by all who knew her, for she possessed a sympathetic and kindly nature. We join with the Foxton public in extending our sympathy to the bereaved husband and sons.
