.Mr. James Learmouth, of Waihi, has been appointed gas manager to the Masterton Borough Council. Mrs. Pinfold, wife of Dr. Pinfold, Methodist minister of Karori, who was knocked down by a motor cycle at Korori this week, died in the hospital at Wellington on Thursday.
At this week’s annual meeting of the Foxton Fire Board Mr. F. Woods, who was one of the Borough Council appointees to the Board, was accorded a vote of thanks for his services while acting on the Board. Mr. Woods still retains his position in charge of the fire police. A wedding which attracted a good deal of interest took place at St. Mary’s Church, Levin, on Wednesday, when Wikitoria, fourth daughter of Mrs. H. and the late Mr.. J. P. McDonnell, was married to Robert Alexander, of Auckland, eldest son of Mrs. R. Sloan, of Wellington. The Rev. J. C. Davies was the celebrating clergyman. Mrs. Owen resigned from the position of honorary secretary of the Ladies’ Croquet Club at this week’s annual meeting, much to the regret of members. Mrs. Owen was not only a very but is a keen player. Mrs. Barr has taken up the secretaryship of the club pro tern.
Prior to. leaving Paterangi last week the Rev. P. J. and Mrs. Mail’s were entertained by the Paterangi Presbyterians at a . farewell social and presented with a cheque. Mr. Mail’s had temporary care of the charge until a permanent minister was appointed. Among those who paid tribute to Mr. Mair’s services were the Rev. W. Buttenvorth and Mr. D. S. Reid, M.P. Mr. Mairs, who was in charge of the local Methodist circuit some years ago, is at present visiting Foxton and is staying with his daughter, Mrs. Cowley.
