CONVICTED FOR THIRD TIME
With two previous convictions ngainst him, Samuel R. W. Smith pleaded guilty at the Wanganui Magistrate’s Court on Monday to Ins third offence of converting a car to his own use. Senior-Sergeant Lopdell said that the ease was a had one of its kind, and deliberate. On Friday he had taken a ear the property of Robert B. Horsley, from Heads Road, and later accused had been arrested in HiUiiervillc with the ear in his possession and had been charged with uiunkemiess in charge of a ear, obscene language, amt assaulting the police. Accused: I have been sentenced to four months on charges arising out of Ibis affair, and I can tell vou 1 will remember the manhand'liiio- ] got from the constable at Hunterville more than anything you can give me. The Magistrate (Mr .1. S. Bnrton, S.M.): l like to think that you lmve something that impresses the offence on you. Accused was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour, the term to lie cumulative with that given at Hunterville. The Senior-Sergeant said that Smith had no money and could not make good the damage done to the ear.
