THE BURWOOD MURDER
BLOOD STAINED OVERCOAT FOUND.
Christchurch, June 25,
What may be an important clue to the Burwood murder was found in the lupins near the road about a mile from the scene of the crime this morning. It was a military overcoat which was covered with blood and had been rolled up. The police now have possession of it. The overcoat was found by Council employees, who were cutting the lupins. No name was noticed in the pockets, but the blood stains were fresh. The coat would fit a 'man of medium height. This afternoon when the discovery of the bloodstained overcoat had stimulated the police to make further search at the scene of the murder, a reporter found three pieces of bloodstained rag like cheese cloth and handed it to a detective.
The police state that there is no doubt that the stains on the overcoat and cloths are blood stains.
