FOXTON CROOUET CLUB.

The annual meeting of the Foxton Croquet Club will be held in the Plunket room, Clyde Street, on Monday afternoon next at 2.30 o’clock, when the annual report and balance-sheet will be submitted and officers elected for the year. ANNUAL REPORT.

The following is the annual report to be submitted: — “ Your committee have pleasure in reporting a very successful season, both financially and otherwise.

The balance-sheet shows receipts

£l6 15s 7d, expenditure £l3 17s « sd, leaving a credit balance of £2 18s 2d. The season opened on October 6th, under very favourable weather, conditions and all members seemed keen and anxious for play. The Wednesday tournament proved very interesting and keen competition lasted throughout the season, resulting in a close finish in the A grade, in which Mrs. Moore gained first place and Mrs. Barr first in the B grade. Your committee regret that several of the players were unable to take part in the “handicap singles,” only 27 games being played, against 62, the previous season. However, some very good games were played, resulting in Mrs. McMufray annexing the first prize, Mrs. Moore second and Mrs. Gwen the points. Very little interest was shown in the ladder matches only seven of these games were played during the season. Six players entered in the Manawatu tournament in February, two reaching the semi-finals in both handicaps and championship doubles and one (with hex’ Palmerston partner) nvon the handicap doubles. One player also entered in the Dominion tournament, which took place in January.

“The club entered in the Manawa-

tu inter-club matches and keen interest was shown and some good games were played, resulting in Foxton gaining third place for the Banner. Keen competition was

shown in the Stewart Shield and Nye Mallet challenge games, very interesting games being played for these badges. During the season a series of card evenings were organised, resulting in the amount of £9 2s 2d being added to the club’s funds. * The shelter shed has been match-lined, which has made it much more comfortable for members.

In conclusion your committee wish to thank all who helped to make the past season successful.”
