PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
The first of a series of winter socials took place last evening in the Presbyterian schoolroom, when a pleasant evening was spent. The programme consisted of musical items, competitions, and games. The competitions were won bv Mrs. Whitehead (local names) and (word building). Vocal items were rendered by Mrs. Downes, Miss Patterson and Mr. Downes and recitation by the Rev. W. H. Nicholas. The committee for the social provided a dainty supper after which the younger folk engaged in games. P.W.M.U. The monthly meeting of the Foxton Branch of P.W.M.U. was held in the -Manse on Tuesday. A fair number of members were present. Mrs. Downes, vice-president, opened with prayer and reading of scripture. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. It was decided that in future the meetings he held on the third Tuesday in each month at 2.45. It was mentioned that copies of the Rev. G.' McNeur’s booklet, “N.Z. and China,” were on sale, and it was agreed to send for several copies, also for’P.W.M.U. cards. It vvas arranged that a parcel of clothing be sent to Sister Edith of Whakaki. Interesting letters from Miss Yansen, of China, and Nurse Doull, of the Maori Mission, were read, and the meeting was closed with the Benediction. Mrs Nicholas kindly provided afternoon tea.
