CAMPING SITE FOR MOTORISTS
, . COUNCIL GRANTS USE OF
VICTORIA PARK.
'fhc Mayor reported to last night’s Borough Council * meeting that the secretary of the Wellington .Automobile Club had interviewed him in . regard to a camping ground locally. The Council quite approved of Victoria Park being used as a camping ground, but at present did not, have sufficient money in the reserves accopnt to make any expenditure in that connection. In the meantime the paik would appear in the Club’s booklet as a camping area, and when funds permitted gas and water would be laid in for the use of visiting motorists. Cr Cowley suggested that it would be dangerous to allow fires to be lit on the park, except in a fireplace provided by the Council. {Jr Thompson said that if the park was to be used as a camping ground it would soon be used as a parking place lor cars, and become a nuisance. If the ground was to be used, however, two old tanks could be used for fireplaces. Cr. Walker offered two old tanks for use in the park, and these were accepted, and will be placed on the park at an early date.
