MOTOR COLLISION LEADS TO A DISCOVERY..
Dunedin, May 9,
Gustave Johnson pleaded guilty in-the Police Court to being in charge of a motor while intoxicated. The police stated that the defendant ran into a cable car. The Superintendent of Police, who witnessed the accident, stated that defendant was nearer “drunk” than “intoxicated.” Defendant/was fined £25 and prohibited from driving for three years.
Arising from the same incident, the defendant, after the accident, was found to have a “double” chai:t showing bets taken, and he was fined £2OO on a charge of carrying on the business of a bookmaker, there being two previous convictions.
