INDECENT LANGUAGE
FOURTEEN DAYS IN GAOL,
Indecent language and assault was the substance of two charges which were preferred against John J. F. Norris in the Wanganui Magistrate’s Court yesterday. For the accused it was stated that in respect to the first charge, the language! used was a little unusual. It did not contain any swear words, but was indecent, and was addressed to a woman whom accused had accosted in the street late at night. Accused was a recent arrival from Auckland.
His Worship, Mr J. S. Barton, SAL, who said that decent women had to be protected from this sort of thing, inflicted a penalty of 14 days’ imprisonment with hard labour, without the option of a fine. On the charge of assault, accused was convicted and discharged.
