OROUA DOWNS SPORTS.

Yesterday morning’s inclement weather interfered somewhat with the attendance at yesterday’s sports gathering at Ofoua Downs, but the afternoon broke fine. The attendance was representative of the whole district. The-horse and foot events were very interesting, and provided some exciting finishes. The children were particularly well catered for.

Mr J. Linklater, M.P., presented the MeKelvie Cup to Mr J. Shaw, and paid a tribute to the sportsmanlike characteristics of both donor and recipient. He congratulated the Association and officials upon (lie conduct of the meeting. A hall in the evening concluded an enjoyable gathering. »
