VICTORIA PARK
A report circulated to the effect that permission had been given to fell live trees iji Victoria Park lias met with a storm of protest. We are pleased to report that the council has no intention to allow any act of vandalism in this connection. It is many years since the scholars of the local school planted most of the trees in this reserve including an avenue leading from the western gate. Apart from the beautifying effect of the growing trees, shelter is afforded picnic parties, who assemble there at holiday times. Some time ago, when the area was enlarged by removing the fence at the northern end, a belt of pine trees were felled, and it is the intention to. replace these on the new fence line with suitable hedge plants at a later date. It is hoped that, the council will oppose any attempt to dispoil the Park by indiscriminate tree felling but, on the other hand, will add to its attractiveness by the periodical planting of suitable trees and flowering shrubs.
