PRESENTATION OF FOOTBALLS

TO THE LOCAL SCHOOLS. Al the local District High school yesterday afternoon two footballs were presented to the District High school, one by Mr. Janies Coley and the other by the Awahou Football Club. The boys were briefly addressed by Mi-. J. K. Hornblow on behalf of Mr. James Coley and Messrs F. Robinson and F. Woods, on behalf of the Awahou Football Club. The speakers urged the boys to play the game for their school in the true team spirit. Mr. F. Mason, headmaster, thanked the donors and called upon the hoys to show their appreciation of the gifts by three cheers which were lustily given. The hope was expressed that the school would successfully defend and hold the Austin Banner again this year. Mr. Robinson said that the Horowlienua Rugby Union had received a shield from a donor for competition among the schools in the union’s district and he hoped that the Foxton school would be successful! in being the first to hold it. The Awahou Club also made a presentation of a ball to the Convent school. It was explained by Mr. Robinson that the gifts of the balls had been made to mark the club’s appreciation of the public patronage accorded their shop day.
