OLD IDENTITIES.

SOME MANAMATU PIONEERS. Upwards of 700 old identities of the Manawatu foregathered at a dinner in connection with Palmerston's jubilee celebrations, held at the beginning of this month. With commendable fore-thought the jubilee committee decided to secure as permanent records of the event, a photograph of the assembly and also a complete list of the names, ages and addresses of all those who sat down for the occasion. These are to be printed at a later date and sent to each person present. A perusal of the list of names reveals several extremely interesting facts about the old folk who were able to attend on that auspicious occasion. For instance, there were present three nonagenarians and no less than 42 who had passed their eightieth birthday and were apparently still in the best of health. The address of guests also reveals the Dominion-wide interest that was taken in the re-union, some coming from as far north as Auckland, Thames Valley, Waikato and Taranaki, while others were present from Dunedin, Wellington and intermediate towns. Quite a large number came from Hawke’s Bay, the majority, of those present, of course, being residents of Palmerston North and surrounding districts. The seniors of that monster roll call at the dinner were: Yrs. James Wilson, Awapuni 90 Mrs. M. A. Rawlins, Brightwatev Terrace 90 C. Spring, Foxton 90 J. Hepworth, 5 Campbell St. 88 T.
