STORM WATER MENACE.
PREVENTATIVE MEASURES TAKEN BY COUNCIL.
Last winter Frances and Sts. and the top end of Avenue Rd.~ suffeml from severe Hooding as a result of the heavy rainfall and residents were greatly inconvenienced, in some instances having to requisition boats to reach their residences. At a recent meeting of the Borough Council, the road foreman was instructed to draw up plans for the construction of drains to obviate, the trouble. As a. result, at. last itight’s meeting, the public works committee recommended that a new drain be opened up from where the present drain crosses Spring St. to meet the northern eud of Russell St.; that the old watenciourse.at .the northern portion of Union St., fronting the Cemetery reserve, be opened up; that the drain under the water channel where Union St. meets Main St. be cleared; and that notice be served on Messrs Ross, Rough and Co. to have the watercourse carrying water from Reeve St. aeross their property cleaned out and broken culverts repaired or removed. • ? - - / Cr. Lucinsky said that the top end of the south side of Avenue Rd. was just as bad as the northern side, and required attention. The Mayor said that this matter had also received the attention of the road foreman, and provision had been made to open up the old drain near Mr Salmon’s property. The recommendations were then adopted.
