BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Foxton Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers last night. CORRESPONDENCE was read and dealt with as follows: From the Manawatu Employers’ Association, bringing before the Council the desirability of joining up with the Association. —Received. From the Manawatu County Council, re Council’s letter in connection with tar sealing boundary roads stating that same had been referred to the County’s engineer.—Received From the Foxton Amateur Cycling Club, applying for permission to construct a cycle track on Victoria Park. —Granted'. From the Foxton So'ecer Club, applying for the use of Easton Park during the coming season. —Granted on previous terms.- \ From the Shannon Borough Council, asking for support in the following resolution: —“That local bodies of a' population of 5,000 and under be written to with the object of pressing the Main Highways Board for a subsidy for main highways through boroughs and also proposing a deputation to the Minister at a later date. —Supported. GENERAL Cr. McMurray reported that although the lupin was cleared from the boundary of Victoria Park, blackberry bad not been eradicated by the; road l staff and unless this was attended to it would prove a serious menace in the future. —Referred to the road foreman. The district electors’ list, for 1927 was adopted. Cr. McMurray reported that as a result of the bad! condition of the centre of the railway line at the Lady’s Mile crossing, the tar sealed roadway on either side oi the track was becoming broken up. The matter was left in the hands of the Town Clerk for attention. As the Manawatu County Council will not contribute to the cost of the electric iighf. in Lady’s Mile, it was decided to shift it into the borough. WATER AND DRAINAGE REPORT. The water works foreman reported as follows:—During the month Whyte Street sewer was completed and water mains connected to two houses. The .sewers in Avenue Road, Russell and Jenks. Streets were also flushed out. During the month .1,675,000' gallons of water was pumped, the maximum current used being 32 amps.— Adopted. ROAD FOREMAN’S REPORT.
The road foreman reported that during the month the road 1 staff had been engaged on the following works-Grubbing noxious weeds in Victoria Park, top dressing footpaths Liddell and Whyte Streets, and Ravensworth Place, clearing grass from intersections of Avenue and Park streets and Avenue and Russell Streets, top-dressing Johnston and Russell Streets, trimming loose metal Purcell street with grader and general maintenance work. The west end of Whyte street road was graded and blinded with loose metal and clay. The footpath in Wharf street was now being topdressed, and a coat of tar is to be given to the footpath on the west side of Park street. —Adopted. GAS MANAGER’S REPORT The gas manager reported that a good number of badly corroded services had been cleaned out during the month. A suggestion was also made that a tank be.erected at the-works to store tar in as the present method of storing it was unsatisfactoi^v-— Adopted^^
