The Minister of Internal Affairs has re-appointed Mr .1. K. Hornblow as Government representative on the Foxton Fire Board.
Mr. .). A. Nash, M.P., states that Mr. Arthur Brightwell, son of one of Palmerston's oldest identities, Vs apparently entitled to the ilistindium of being the first white child born in Palmerston North, the date of bis birth being .July 5, 1870.
Mr Ormonde Dool, 8.A., has boon appointed to lill Iho vacancy on the, local District High School stall' rendered vacant by the resignation of Mrs Price, M.A. Mr Dool will take up his duties next month, and in tin* meantime a relieving teacher will he appointed.. Mr Doel is a married man with two children. Mr. A. K. Penn has for the past ihreo months been supplying the pulpit -at the Methodist Church, Pifankton, during' the temporary absence of Rev. Fiehig. At a- concert given at St. James’ Methodist Hall, Frankton, on Thursday evening last, complimentary reference was made to Mr Penn’s services during his stay, and lie was presented with three ,useful and valuable hooks. Mr. Penn is a son of Mr. Frank Penn, formerly of Otaki.
The d'eath took plane at Wanganui on Saturday of Mr. William Dustin senr., head of the wellknown firm of Dustin’s Ltd., at the age of 60 years. The late Mr Dustin was horn at Plyjnouth, England, and he came to New Zealand at the age of 16 years, working his passage out on a sailing vessel as the ship’s baker. He subsequently started business in Wanganui, Palmerston North and Wellington. He leaves a wife, five sons and four daughters to mourn their loss. The funeral took place at Wanganui vesterdu.y.
Mrs Price, M.A., of the local District High School staff, has accepted an appointment on the staff of the Hutt District High School, and will relinquish her present position at an early date. Mrs Price was appointed to the locial District High School upon its inauguration, and her work has been highly commented upon by the inspectors, and good progress lias been made by the students who have been under her charge. Her departure will be regretted by the school, and good wishes will follow her in her new appointment.
