LONG RIDE COMPLETED
Mil. BULL ARRIVES SAFELY. Mr. G. N. Bell, ol ? Karere, who undertook to ride from Auckland to Palmerston North on horseback in connection with the Palmerston North’s Jubilee ceremony arrived at the Palmer ton North show grounds on Friday, after having covered the distance in 10 days, apd handed the Mayor of Auckland’s letter to Mr. F. J. Nathan, Mayor of Palmerston North. One of the conditions of Mr Bell’s journey was that he should carry no money or food with him, but 'that he should subsist upon what was given him. All went well until Wanganui was reached, when Mr. Bell’s horse met with an accident, thus necessitating that he proceed on foot. This Mr. Bell did, leaving Wanganui at 8 a.m. on Friday. He was going strongly, when a car sent out by the Jubilee Committee, who feared that, he would arrive too late, picked him up at Awahuri after he had covered over 35 miles on foot. This concluded Palmerston’s jubilee celebrations.
