MANAWATU-OROUA RIVER BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Ma-nawatu-Oroua River Board was held in Palnierston North, on Thursday, when there wpre present:— 'Messrs/ W. S. Carter (in the chair), A. Buchanan, H. Barber, R. Tanner, J. E. C. Harrison, H. Akers, A. Seifert and B. G. Gower.

The chairman, in bringing up the matter of what was to de done in connection with the work in regard to Commission’s finding, said that he considered that the time had come when the Government should be approached. “It is no use in putting it off any longer,” he added.

Mr. Buchanan considered that the question was that of rc-classi-fication.

The chairman: “I think it would be well to see the Premier before Parliament meets: it is necessax’y that he should, he in full possession of all our requirements before Parliament does meet. Continuing, he add'ed that he thought the time was now opportune to do something in the matter; lie would like to see the present meeting take action.

After some further discussion it was moved by Mr. Buchanan that a committee composed of members of the Board, be appointed to interview the Ministers of Finance, Public Woi’ks, and' Internal Affairs, and endeavour to interest them in subsiding the Board’s work on the lines recommended by the Commission. It was further decided that Mr. F. C. Hay, the Board’s engineer, also form one of the committee, and that Mr. J. Linklater, M.P., be approached and requested to arrange an interview with the Ministers at a time suitable to themselves. The Ministers were to be informed that, if the Board were promised the subsidy, the loan proposal would immediately be placed before the ratepayers; Mr. J. A. Nash, M.P., was also to be invited to be present at the interview.
