NEWSPAPER PROPRIETORS’ ANNUAL MEETING.
Wellington, February 17,
The annual meeting ofjthe New Zealand Newspaper Proprietors’ Association was held to-day in the Dominion Farmers’ Institute boardroom, Ihe president (Mr. C. W. Earle) presiding. There was a large attendance of members. Reference was made in the president’s address to the losses sustained in membership during the year and the following resolution was carried: “That this Association place on record its deep regret at the death of the old and honoured members, Sir Henry Brett, Mr. Arthur Copping, the Hon. W. J. Qeddes, and Mr. F. Pirani, its appreciation of their earnest lives and long and valuable services to the Dominion, and thajt the. sympathy of the Association be conveyed to the relatives of the late members.” Discussing' the operation of the Apprentices’ Act, dissatisfaction was expressed on account of the difficulty of its administration and lack of uniformity in practice and an opinipn was expressed that the Act should he simplified and its administration placed entirely in the hands of the Labour Department.
The president was congratulated on the honour bestowed on him by His Majesty the King and an appropriate minute was recorded.
