Mr. F. J. Mantcll has been appointed caretaker of the. Masonic Hall which has recently been renovated and enlarged.
The Minister of Lands announced % yesterday that Mr. R. A. Rodger of Tapanui has been appointed to succeed Air. Ritchie who is retiring on superannuation, as. land-pur-chase officer. Mr. Rodger was a . member and chairman of the Otago Inquiry Board and later when the Revaluation Board was set; up under the Discharged Soldiers’ Settlements Act he :was given a place on the Board. Besides being a practis- ; ed farmer, Air Rodger had had business training.
