MAN INJURED IN THIGH
Wanganui, January 24,
While out shooting hares at Papaiti, Aramoho, yesterday, Alfred Hughes, aged 43, was shot in the thigh by a'bullet which was accidentally discharged from a rifle his friend Leo Murray was carrying. The accident occurred when Murray fell;a few yards behind Hughes. The rifle went off and the charge hit Hughes in the uppen portion of the thigh. 1 Though the bone was untouched by tbe pellets the, wound inflicted was very severe and the effects from shock alone were serious enough. Hughes is now in the Wanganui Hospital and will probably be there for some time. • He was exceedingly lucky that the charge did not'hit him in the abdomen, as the range was point-blank, and fatal injuries would then have ■been sustained. The hospital reported to-day that Hughes’s condition was satisfactory. An opeiation may he necessary.
