DRUNKEN MOTORIST
ADDING INSULT TO INJURY
Stratford, January 24
John Luke Flintoff, a farmer, of Inglewood, was charged in the Magistrate’s Court with being drunk while in charge of a ear, and with a breach of his prohibition order. Defendant admitted having two “spots” in Eltliam on the way home. He crashed into the back of a ear standing off; the road at Midhirst and collided with another car at Tariki.
The evidence showed, that he wished to fight the owner of the first car. His wife proceeded home in another car after the first collision, refusing to travel witli him.
Defendant’s license was cancelled and he was disqualified for driving for twelve months.
DRUNK IN CHARGE OF CART,
Palmerston North, January 24
“He was found drunk in Cook Street while in charge of a horse and cart, which had to be driven home by some of his friends,” said Sergeant Power of David Woods, ploughman, of Fitzherbert, who failed to appear in the Magistrate’s Court this morning in answer to the charge. Defendant was fined £1 and costs 9s.
“NOT DRUNK IN THE USUAL
SENSE.”
Dunedin, January 24
Oswald Leonard Edie, of Birch - wood, Southland, was charged in the Magistrate’s Court, before Mr. Bundle, S.M., with being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-car on January 22..
After the hearing, the Magistrate said he was satisfied, after consideration of the evidence and the actions of accused, that he was under the influence of liquor and not fit to drive a car. Accused was not drunk in the usual sense of the term, but he was not in a normal state. He would be fined £5 and expenses £1 Is., and prohibited from driving until March 31 next.
