FOXTON HARBOUR BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING The usual monthly meeting of the Foxton Harbour Board avhs held in the secretary’s office yesterday morning, presided over by the chairman (Mr. J. Linklater, M.P.). Also present were Messrs Moirtensen, W. E. Barber, J. Chrystall, and R. MeMurray. Apologies for absence Avere received from Messrs J. A. Nash, M.P., E. R. B. Holbeu and T. G. Clapham. BEACH WATER SUPPLY The Board’s solicitors (Messrs Moore and Bergin) Avrote, submitting their opinion in regard to the reticulation of water at the Beach stating that the Board could not charge a rate for water supplied and suggested the formation of a Toavii Boarl at the Beach.
Mr W. E. Barber reported that he had placed the opinion before the Beach Improvement .Committee. Mr. Chrystall said the Board was quite sympathetic towards the project but could not do anything illegal. The suggestion was made by Mr. Barber that if the Beach Improve,ment Committee'wanted to go further into the matter the bore could bo banded over for what it cost, or on the other hand a charge could be made for the water used. Mr. Barber was accorded a vote of thanks for attending the meeting of the Beach Improvement Commit- . tee, the letter was received and tho matter dropped. SHEATHING THE WHARF. Mr Mortensen suggested sheath ing the wharf at the old "West Coast shed, Avhere the river is eroding its hanks, without interfering with the present structure. He had inspected the site that morning and the work would not be ojiliffl'cult- undertaking. Mr MeMurray said the Avork could he done by the Board’s staff. There were several piles on hand which could bo used. The matter would have to be\submitted to the Railway Department for approval before the work could be undertaken, however. Mr Mortensen said his proposal would cost between £lO and £2O as against about £2OO for carrying out the original proposal.
It was decided to substitute timber for concrete as suggested by Mr Mortensen, and the secretary was instructed to obtain for timber, the matter to be left in the hands of the local committee,, but to be-submitted to the Railway j Department for approval before commencement. FLAX REFUSE. • The Marine Department wrote re (lax refuse in the MamiAvatu River, notifying the. Board that it could take action against offenders. —-Reccived. ■ GENERAL; V « > ' V An extension of lease for a beach section was granted to R. N. Speirs y. for a further fourteen years. It Avas decided to dispose of the Board’s explosives to the Moritoa Drainage Board at cost price, plus five per cent, loading. The Chairman was accorded a vote to thanks for the donation of a, visitors’ book to Te Wharangi Post Office. . ' A cheque amounting to £SO, .Sinking Fund due to the Public- Trustee, was passed for payment. ’ * Accounts amounting to £9l 18/1 were passed for payment.
